Learn More About Our Home Safety Assessments

Safer to Stay was created to help families navigate safety concerns at home before a crisis occurs. Many people know something feels “different,” but aren’t sure what steps to take or whether they’re overreacting. Our role is to provide a clear, professional evaluation and practical guidance so families can make confident decisions.

About Jenelle

Jenelle Murphy, PT, DPT, is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and the founder of Safer to Stay. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and has dedicated her career to working with older adults across Rehabilitation and senior living environments.

Over the years, Jenelle met many families after a fall had already changed everything, often following a hospitalization, sudden loss of confidence, or an urgent move from home. Again and again, she saw the same challenge: families wanted to keep their loved one safe and independent but had no clear guidance before a crisis occurred.

Safer to Stay was created to fill that gap. Rather than waiting for an injury or medical event, Jenelle provides proactive home safety and functional assessments inside the actual living environment. Her approach combines clinical training with practical recommendations families can realistically implement, without pressure and without unnecessary medicalization.

Her goal is simple: help older adults remain safely independent for as long as possible, and help families feel confident in the decisions they are making.

Outside of her professional work, Jenelle enjoys spending time with her family and her three dogs. She also has a creative side and is the founder of Beyond Heavenly Blooms, where she preserves meaningful flowers into keepsakes. She enjoys photography and gardening, interests that reflect her appreciation for home, memory, and the environments where people feel most comfortable.

Why Safer to Stay Exists

Families often encounter support only after an injury, hospitalization, or noticeable decline. Traditional healthcare services are typically triggered by a medical event, leaving a gap for individuals who are still living independently but beginning to show early risk factors.

Safer to Stay was created to address that gap. The goal is not to alarm families or push higher levels of care, but to provide an objective understanding of safety and function within the home so thoughtful, proactive decisions can be made.

You do not need to wait for a fall to evaluate safety.

What Makes Safer to Stay Different

  • Not home health care
  • Not a contractor or home modification company
  • Not a sales service for equipment
  • Not an insurance-driven evaluation

Safer to Stay is an independent, Doctor of Physical Therapy-led functional safety assessment focused on prevention, education, and practical next steps.

Who We Help

  • Older adults living independently
  • Adult children supporting aging parents
  • Families after hospital or rehab discharge
  • Individuals with early mobility or balance concerns
  • Older adults and families looking for objective guidance on whether remaining at home or exploring senior living is the safest option.
  • Senior living and community professionals seeking objective guidance

Our Approach

Safety does not always mean removing independence.

Often, small changes, better understanding of risk, and clear planning allow individuals to remain in their homes longer and with greater confidence.

The goal of Safer to Stay is not to create fear, but to replace uncertainty with clarity.
